Wedding: Angela & Ben 8-21-2010

These two were so open and adventurous, it was a pleasure to share in their big day!

Everyone was great about suffering through the heat. So we took them inside to the temperature controlled great hall for formal portraits.

Watch for their up coming Trash The Dress session!

The "I Will" Project

The Stunning Heather

Gotta love when everything about a shoot goes right!

David Gallagher

After a very lovely lunch and ice cream at Ted & Wally's with Lisa and Jim, we came across my favorite part of the Old Market walking back to the cars. Local musicians on street corners. I met David Gallagher; a super nice fella from Kansas City that was in Omaha for a gig. He discovered today that his car window had been broken in. Hopefully the bit of cash I tossed his way helps fix it.

Great end to an afternoon that started with me getting shaken down by smelly beer man for $2 in quarters and 2 cigarettes.

Such a sweet young couple. Congrats and best wishes!!

Jewelry Line Shoot

(Link to jewelry to follow)

If anything else could have gone wrong on this shoot, I don't know how. But I pulled some of the best work I've ever done and it came from being forced to get creative.

First we lost 2 models. I suggested my house to meet and get ready, which in hindsight was a terrible idea. The models nearly melted even with all my fans surrounding my bathroom. My oh-so-helpful 2 year old son decided the makeup made for a great toy. And of cousre he spilled a brand new, gorgeous thing of eye powder.

It took far longer for the girls to get ready than I thought because I wasn't cracking the whip. So by the time we left we were already losing light. We had to park a little farther away from the site than anticipated. That's when the girls realized we'd left the jewelry we were there to photograph. The designer opted to just do the shoot with what we did have with us. My gear setup went smooth and quick though!

Once we got rolling, the light went fast and we had to pull out a flashlight so I could get a focal point. But once I got into a sweet spot it really started rolling! Lesson learned: when the shoot seems impossible, get creative!

Future Project

Working with the stunning Heather has (re)inspired my desire to photograph dancers doing what they do best! If you are a dancer or know a studio that would be open to me and my camera observing, please please please let me know!

Reviving My Blog

So I guess I started this and sort of forgot about it. If you're not already, you should follow me and my "Wall Of Awesome" on my Facebook fan page. Here's the latest photo to grace the wall:

And as promised, the story behind the photo...

I met Larry at the Lighting Essentials Workshop as his band Secret Weapon came out to be our first set of subjects. I loved his whole look right off the bat but didn't get a chance to work with him since we had to keep moving. So a couple months (and 4 rockin' live shows) later, I asked him to recreate the outfit.

I didn't realize just how heavy duty this awesome white jacket was though. And I picked one of the hottest days of the week. But with enough beer and the promise of trespassing on location, he suited up to brave the mosquitos and humidity with me. We started off by this awesome door...

...walked to the other side so I could shoot in front of the big cement silos (the whole reason for this location. But no matter how low I got to the ground I could not get them in frame without suggesting we go to the roof. Finally I sucked it up and layed down on that there pile of mulch and shot upside down. Whatever it takes to get the shot!

Pet Portraits

I think it's hilarious that my cat has better portraits than most people!

A New Undertaking

My girlfriend Rachel and her friend Ashley have started a craft business and have accepted my offer to photograph their products for their website. Here's the first of what I'm sure will be many installments:
